31-Day Spiritual Guide: Day 31 – Hope

I decided to wait and use this principle last since the whole purpose of my starting this blog/site was to add to the message of hope for alcoholics and addicts still suffering. My favorite acronym for hope is:

It’s that simple. So often, especially early on in recovery it’s easy to just throw in the towel and give up. So easy to think “I can’t do this, it’s too hard.” Too easy to believe that I will never be able to stay sober anyway so I might as well drink or get high now! Well, that is just my own sick head trying to justify putting more dope or booze back into my body. It doesn’t have to be that way, I am living proof that people like me can overcome but I am also proof that we can’t do it alone. That old saying “an alcoholic left alone is in bad company” is completely accurate.

I said all that to get to this point: If you or someone you know is still fighting this battle, still losing to their addiction but have not lost yet, THERE IS STILL HOPE! The tag line on the site reads “As long as there is breath in the body, there is still hope!” I believe that wholeheartedly. None of us are a lost cause so long as we are still breathing! Let’s continue to spread that hope. If you are looking for help, check out our resources page, email me: bbanks@truthforhope.org, message me on facebook, DM me on twitter, or reach out to someone AND GET THAT HELP. It is so much better on this side of the water. I had a counselor in treatment that told me if I would do the deal, and be patient, I wouldn’t regret it. He was dead on. I don’t regret it, not for a second. Getting clean and sober was the single greatest thing that ever happened in my life because that event initiated the amazing life I have today. Getting sober enabled me to be a husband, a father, a son, a brother, be employable, be dependable, ad infinitum. All the things I couldn’t achieve while drunk and high, I am/have achieved sober and if there isn’t hope in that, I don’t know where else to look. I wish everyone a great rest of the weekend, thanks for reading.
